The K9 TravelSafe™ range consists of unique Australian made Aluminium constructed dog ute cages. These dog boxes come in a number of different standard sizes to suit both alloy ute trays and styleside trays, or can be custom built to suit any vehicle. The K9 TravelSafeTM is made from high-quality materials to secure and lock the dog cage if necessary, and the quality latches ensure the dog cage door cannot be unintentionally opened.

The K9 TravelSafe’s Aluminium construction provides rigid strength with the added benefits of being rust free and its lighter weight profile provides increased fuel efficiency over a steel alternative.

With amplimesh sides and an aluminium tread plate roof, the open air design allows maximum ventilation, minimizing potential heat stress for dogs.

Dog Cages For Tub Trays

The K9Travelsafe range offers a number of dog boxes to suit tub trays, also commonly referred to as Stylesides.  These trays not only have the exposed wheelarches but also often feature sportsbars mounted to them. In all of our standard cages designed for these tubs, the cage sits in between the wheel arches. While most cages will fit leaving the sportsbar on, it is important to confirm measurements with us before ordering.

Dog Cages to suit Alloy & Steel Trays

The K9Travelsafe range of ute dog cages also includes a couple of dog boxes that fit traditional steel trays with drop down sides. Generally, we fabricate these cages to order, as customizing these two models has become very popular. Our standard measurements for these dog boxes put the cages inside most utes’ dropdown sides. However, the overall length can be extended on both models to allow the tray sides to be cut down and close against the cage.

Popular Add-ons

Powder Coating

Powder coating is available on all our standard & custom dog boxes. We only use professional powder coaters who pre-treat our cages appropriately to ensure the best finish. Our powder coaters stock both the Dulux & Interpon range. Powder coating adds approximately 1 – 2 weeks lead time to the cage build.

Roperail

Need extra storage space? Then add a roperail to allow safe storage on the dog cage roof. Given that cages are fabricated to be as light as possible, the roofs are intended for light items such as 4WD recovery tracks, swags & light camping gear.

Key Locks

While high quality USA made compresson locks feature on all our premium models, any of our standard cages can be upgraded to the same locks.

Partitions & Additional doors

We fabricate partitions that either swing or fold away. This allows the cage to operate as either a single or double dog cage. Obviously, the dog cage needs to be big enough first to provide adequate room when split. Partitions are made to be removable in the event your dogs outgrow the space. We can also fit additional doors to all our cages to provide more universal access.

Our team understands that your vehicle can be as unique as you are. So, sometimes a standard setup won’t work. That’s why, in the majority of cases, we fabricate customised dog cages. From subtle changes to a completely unique design, there is no limit to what can be done.

    FAQ

    What size cage is best for my breed

    Each breed of dog is different, some are smaller and some are larger than others. While we have a general idea of how comfortable certain breeds will be in our standard ute cages, we do not know your dogs as well as you do. In any case, visualizing your dog inside the cage is the best way to determine a good fit. Start by getting some chalk and mark out on the ground the dimensions of the cage you are looking at. Once you have your outline, get your dog to stand inside, ensuring it can turn around comfortably and lie down.

    Do you ship interstate?

    Absolutely! So we can send through the best freight quote ensure you include your postcode on the enquiry form. Generally it is cheaper to freight a dog cage to another business or collect it from a nearby depot.

    I don’t want to drill into my tray. What are my options?

    Bolting your dog cage to the tray bed of your ute is by far the most secure method of installing the cage. However, when bolting is not practical we recommend using Stainless Steel turnbuckles as the next best alternative. For turnbuckles to work you will need four tie down points in/on your tray, so that you can attach a turnbuckle to roughly each corner of the cage. So long as you have four turnbuckles pulling in opposite but downward directions the cage will be held securely.

    Will the standard models fit my tubtray

    The Kelpie, Husky, SharPei and Staffy models have all been designed to suit most tub trays. However, not all ute trays are manufactured the same and some vehicles do have a reduced clearance between the wheel arches – meaning our standard models will not fit. Before ordering your cage, double check to make sure there is 1050mm clearance between the wheel arches. Regardless of whether it is the wheel arches or sportsbar causeing an issue, fabricating a dog box to suit the ute is easy.
